‘PURE to receive funding until 2011’. Wicklow Times reports that the PURE Project is to receive funding for the next three years. Minister Gormley announced the extension of the PURE project from 2009 to 2011, stating that, ‘The partnership approach adopted by the PURE Project, to the problem of illegal dumping and fly-tippng in the Wicklow and Dublin uplands has succeeded in greatly reducing incidences of illegal dumping in the region over the last three years’. He added that, ‘while progress has clearly been made, there is no room for complacency.’ Ian Davis, PURE Project Manager said ‘the funding was the Ministers response to the fact that the project was working. Because PURE is a partnership we can identify problems with a speed that perhaps other local authorities cannot....the funding is an acknowledgement that the project is a success.'
The Decision to extend the project was taken following a full evaluation of the performance of the project. This evaluation revealed that PURE has been highly effective from an operations perspective.
